My interest in genealogy started in 1999. Relatively speaking, it was a mild interest until the day I decided to make the 2 hour drive to Marion County to get information from the headstone of my great grandparents buried in Phillips Cemetery. That was the day I was hooked. I was amazed at how many Hankses were buried in this little rural cemetery just a few miles from my grandparents farm house. Eventually I found that among those were also my gg grandparents and ggg grandparents on my Hanks family along with numerous others on my other lines (Combs, Wilkinson, Roberts, Greene, Crutchfield, etc....). My dad's paternal side is deeply rooted in this area of northeast Marion County. |
Across the county line in Clay County is Oskaloosa Cemetery. Here my dad's maternal roots run deep. Among the families in this area are Krutsinger, Owens, Segeser, Russell and others.
My mother's lines are a bit more scattered. Those lines include Gray, Boughers, Anderson and Durkee.
As weather permits, my wife and I are trying to fulfill photo requests locally and also on any planned visits we make to cemeteries on research trips.

Ron you have listed George Lindsey find a grave,, but Im confused,, you have a Mesa listed as his wife, but you have William listed as their son. this William has the same dates as my William
William is my 2nd great grandfather and George being my 3rd great grandfather....my family is also related to the Hanks...I believe WE are related....Ruth Jones married Donald Hanks and they had 5 children.. sound familiar? I have been working Genealogy for almost 35 years and still have many missing dates.. are you in Illinois?
my grandfather was Miles Goodwin who lived in Michigan. my parents took me to Illinois about 1974 and that is the only time I remember being there..we visited dads cousins, and then in about 1996 I went there to the cemeteries where family is buried ( Decatur area) Maybe you can helo me with my missing dates and names,,thanks,,Paula

Unfortunately I don't know. I found a clipping. I was interested in him because he was a boarder at my great grandparents house when my grandma was a baby. She said that he used to love to rock her. I was trying to find out more about him.

Thanks. Martin and August are Mina's sons. I'm not sure why Mina is sharing a headstone with her son and not her husband. My guess Mina and Martin's deaths being at the same time. I know Mina's husband was Henry or Heinrich. Very likely the C. Heinrich buried at Ebenezer Cemetery, but have not found his death record to confirm.
