Just a country girl from South Carolina. I grew up all around the Columbia area. But I have been away for 25 + yrs. Wow! Can't believe it's been that long.
I've got family all around South Carolina (Lexington, Irmo, Chapin, and Newberry areas, as well as around the Sumter, Florence, and Bennettsville areas). Also family in California and Oregon. Family surnames-Bickley, McCartha,Comalander,Jackson,Garrett,White, and Hobbs from Delaware, and NC.
Also related to Smith Family from Red Bank,Lexington, West Columbia,SC--and Isley family from New Jersey, SC, and NC.
With all the older folks gone it's really hard trying to find family you never knew. Most of my findings have been family members or friends of the family.
I'm sure there are a few who will understand this and some who will not! I'm a free spirit, I enjoy nature and it's beauty and the freedom I have while walking with the angels who have past on visiting their graves.
As a child, I loved walking around old grave yards. Wondering if they could speak--what would they tell me. I found out what they are saying--"WRITE ABOUT ME!"
Everyone has their hobbies, mine are simple I love to reach beyond into the unknown. Life and death -- what a beautiful mystery.
Please feel free to add pictures to any of my memorials, As a rule, I don't mind transferring memorials to others, however those who are direct family members of mine I prefer to keep under my management. I hope you understand. Peace and Love--Leigh
Walter Franklin "Sam" White I have posted photos of Walter's grave, but the light was poor the day I was at the cemetery. I will be returning there again soon, and I will get some new photos, which I hope will be easier to read, and perhaps a photo or two of the area around the grave.
Thanks for posting the obit on William Franklin White. He was my G Grandfather. My Grandfather was his son, James Franklin White.
Since the obit you posted gave his parents names I will add a little more history on his side of the family.
His father, as stated, was James Grier White and his mother was Frances Cornelia Munnerlyn White.
His grandfather was Joseph Barton White Jr and his grandmother was Jane Dent White. Both are buried in the family graveyard on the Manning Highway in Sumter County, SC. The graveyard was almost totally destroyed by hurricane Hugo in 1989.
Joseph Barton White Jr's parents were Joseph Barton White Sr. and Judith Grier White and they are buried in the White Cemetery on Highway 521 at Beckwood Road in Sumter SC. Judith was the first recorded death in the cemetery having passed away in 1813. Joseph Sr passed away in 1852. Although the cemetery is overgrown both stones as well as several others are clearly visible.
