Re: Nellie Clement Smith
I heard from Callison Funeral Home in Rogers today. They did not find a record in their old books. However, there are three homes, one in Rogers, Bentonville and Gravette. The person told me that she checked Rogers and Bentonville. But that Gravette is storied in a garage. I doubt that Gravette would have handled the funeral. At this stage, what you could do is order the death certificate from Little Rock. That should tell you were she was buried. It is also possible that she was cremated. -- dennis

I went to the Rogers Library Tuesday and did not find an obit on Nellie Smith. Thought that the paper would have picked it up. The funeral home has not contacted me yet. I will give them another week or so. - dennis

I did call the funeral home in Rogers for information. The lady there has broken her ankle and cannot get to the books right now. She will let me know something later regarding Nellie Smith. -- dennis

RE: Nellie Kate Clement Smith
I am not sure about who sent the money for upkeep but I will do some research. It was sent before I took over the cemetery. I just remember the name and assumed she was the one who sent it. When I get a chance I will check old newspapers at the library to see if I can find her obit now that I have a date. She may be buried in the Phillips Cemetery with no headstone. Records were not kept very well and I have had quite a time figuring things out.
Thank you for your help. I will let you know what I find.

Nellie Smith
I went to Fayetteville today and retrieved the obituary from the 1936 newspaper. Had a few others to look up at the time. Copied Nellie's to a memory stick. However, somehow the image did not copy correctly, which I just discovered. I will go back when this weather breaks again. Nellie did die at Cave Springs from cancer. I did not see a mention as to where she was buried. The funeral home was disclosed and I will contact them to see if they will give me the burial location. In reading between the lines, I get the impression that Doyle was not present in 1936 but may have been in California in 1935 to 1940. I did not find him in Arkansas in the 1940 Census. He did remarry in Washington Co in 1940 to a Shaffer. Sorry to be so long here.
