Bio

Born in the late 1940s in Enid, Garfield Co., Oklahoma, and raised there until graduation from Enid High School in 1966. Graduated from Southern Nazarene University (SNU) in 1970 with a B.A. in Religion, and again from SNU in 1975 with an M.A. in Religion. Married to Barbara J. Matt in Aug 1969 in Austin, MN. Pastored a Wesleyan Church in Oklahoma City from 1972-75 and was ordained in July 1973 as a Wesleyan (Methodist) minister.

Served two, four-year terms as a field linguist/missionary in Papua New Guinea, from 1975-79 and again from 1982-86. Earned a second M.A. in Linguistics in 1980 from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), and a Ph.D. in Linguistics in Humanities from UTA in 1987, dissertation entitled, "Unraveling Murder and Mayhem: A Textlinguistic Analysis of a Wiru Divination Account, Papua New Guinea."

Since 1987 I have served as a member of the faculty at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the School of Ministries and Christian Thought. I have worked on Fullingim genealogy (and related lines) and family history since 1972.
