My Clayton ancestors migrated from the Spartanburg, South Carolina area to Gilmer County, Georgia in the 1850 census, Jackson County, Alabama in the 1860 census, Franklin County, Arkansas in the 1870 census (but came by way of Indiana - where my grandfather was born), then to Morris County, Texas in the 1880 census. I have remained in the Northeast Texas area, while some of the family moved on to the California, Oregon, and Washington state areas.
