Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family histories for the past 25 years, and have published my "Hammersley's of Lynchburg, Virginia" manuscript in 2006, the 2nd edition will be by Dec 2010. Other family lines include: Sankey, Hamlett, Holt, Sublett, Puckett, Smoot, McManus, McCauley & Knight from my own lines. Additionally through family marriages: Murray, Ehlenburg, Swayze, Day, Shaw, Lepard, Duplante, Hollingshead, Schnell, Gadladge, Andrews, Griffin and other associated families.

I live in SE Michigan close to Toledo, and have access to both Ohio & Michigan records, both online and through county libraries. I have some allied lines from Michigan, mainly Day, Draper, Swayze, Murray and others, and have gathered a lot of data on those families. I'm an avid photographer and digitally reproduced antique photos and restore damaged photos. I enjoy traveling to the places my ancestors lived, worked and died and learning as much about them as I can.

Note: Those of us who volunteer our TIME, expense & effort do so VOLUNTARILY, if you want a correction made, ask nicely, otherwise your request will be ignored. I do not respond to snarky, rude commentary... corrections will be made when time permits, not when you demand - this service is run by volunteers, not paid professionals! Please DO NOT SEND MULTIPLE REQUESTS FOR THE SAME MEMORIAL -it is a waste of my time and yours - thank you for understanding.

If you want a transfer, include your contributor # or the memorial will not be transferred. Much of the entries made are transcribed from PUBLISHED material, not farcical fiction - those of us who spend OUR time to transcribe & upload records are not responsible for errors done by volunteers in the field, or historical society publishers.

If a duplication is found, I will only delete the duplication WITHOUT photos, otherwise what is the point - volunteers take the time to visit those cemeteries and take those photos, I will not diminish their work, effort & time by undoing what some have graciously shared with the public.

Hammersleys buried at Mount Olive Cemetery, Lawrence County, Indiana
Hi - I put the correct number for John Daniels mother on his Find a Grave memorial. Are you related to any of the Hammersleys buried at Mount Olive? My mother, Mary Catherine (Hammersley) Grissom is buried at Mount Olive.

JOSEPH B. CANDLER # 60852935
ALEXANDRA, JOSEPH B. CANDLER'S father, DANIEL CANDLER, SR. died in 1860 (born 1788 Campbell Co VA-died 1860 Campbell Co VA) probably about a year before the CIVIL WAR started. However, JOSEPH B. CANDLER'S brother, DANIEL CANDLER, JR. is probably the PRIVATE you're referring to who served as a Confederate in the 3rd VIRGINIA RESERVES in the CIVIL WAR (I said SERVED not necessarily FOUGHT). You do have a memorial to DANIEL CANDLER, JR. (he may be the one you're referring to). NEWS FLASH__>> Oh I'm sorry, it just dawned on me that I may have misinterpreted what you are saying about the CIVIL WAR service. That you probably mean that JOSEPH B. CANDLER (born on MAY 1st) not his father, DANIEL CANDLER, SR. did the military service. The way you have it worded I could interpret either way. SORRY ! You know the LYNCHBURG, BEDFORD-CAMPBELL County-CANDLERS of CANDLER('S) MOUNTAIN (just south of LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMPUS) & VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA, & GEORGIA share ancestors back in ENGLAND & IRELAND with the CANDLERS of BOSTON, NEW YORK CITY, OHIO, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, & MICHIGAN to name a few. -------------------------------------------------------------------------Let me know if you have any interest in the CANDLER FAMILY. THANX, MITCH FAULK

Julie Hampton
Hammersley of Campbell Co, VA
I'm not related but found a death notice for a Hammersley and was trying to figure out who it was since his first name was not mentioned. He was a planter of Campbell county, Va who was returning from Lynchburg when he was murdered. The article appeared in The Danbury Reporter, Danbury, North Carolina, Thursday, December 3, 1885. Since you seem to be the Hammersley expert, thought I'd ask!

re "Ann Alcan Henry," wife of Fayette Henry
FYI, just needed to correct a glitch in her maiden name. The correct name is Elcan, from the Elcans of Buckingham County, VA. Many thanks for all your work on the site! :)
