THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Thanks so much for the transfer of Frank's memorial. I do appreciate it.
Thanks Chris, Love your joke, thats really funny. Act of Congress, that is exactly how she acted today, she dragged out, " w e h a v e t o l o o k u p t h e n a m e" oh goodness lady, it can't be that hard, then she said "and they have to give you a map" I almost said, I am not asking them to carry me to the gravesite, they don't even have to point, just tell me the letters! haha
The Wood one is my very first!!! What was funny is that we parked right next to it!! Of course we started at the first marker and walked all the way to the end, all the way back and all the way to the end again, then found it!!! Murphy's law, the other two we looked for we immediately looked closest to the car before we started walking back and forth!!! I feel like emailing Dignity and giving them a piece of my mind! That cemetery is so old, they should hire a historian!
Thanks, thats a good idea, why are they so difficult? Today was my first day doing this, and I was surprised they weren't helpful at all. she said that they only do one at a time because
"they have to type in the name, then show you on the map, it can take forever" UHMMMM How long does it take you to type in a name?? Lol!! I will keep trying tho. thank you for the advise! PS I wish they would hire a historian, I would be happy to do the job, there are like 60 requests just from Fairhaven!
Thank you for taking a photo of Ethelbert W Grabill's marker.

Ok thank you!

Thank you for the pic! Do you happen to know if Mr. Prough was military?

Thanks for the welcome back ! Yes, B.J. Waters had me kicked off Find-A-Grave & I was off for about a year. Seems she wants Inglewood all to herself, so I have obliged. She killed my enthusiasm for the cemetery, as I'm sure others have met the same fate.

I was wondering if I could copy one of your images you took and posted on Findagrave.com, for my genealogy file. The image are of the grave marker for Donald Lee Clark. Donald Clark is my fith cousin, twice removed. Our common ancestors are John Harrison Sarah Lovell who emigrated from Yorkshire to Nova Scotia in 1774. With your permission, I would also like to post it on my genealogy FB page: "John Harrison Sarah Lovell" with the notation: Source: macso at Findagrave.com. I am not asking that you transfer the memorials! Thanks! Randy Harrison, Truro Nova Scotia, Canada

Incredible!!! Because of you, we cemented the data based on Mr. Davis's spouse being buried next to him as you identified. The county coroner called the cemetery to ID who made arrangements for the burials and we found a long lost brother of Mr. Davis- one that hours of genealogy research did not find! Now, Mr. Davis can be buried in a veteran's cemetery. His elderly brother was so happy to know what happened to his estranged sibling. The work you do has deep and meaningful rewards. Words cannot thank you.
