THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

|VintageVyrle||RE: NANCY CRUTCHFIELD SHIELDS #141476370|
I am researching James Robert Shields and his family. After James' wife Martha Cullins Shields died in 1920, he married Nancy J. Geis in Santa Ana, CA. I have a copy of their marriage certificate and it states her maiden name was Martin. There's a Frank Crutchfield (son) living with her on one of the census's, so I suspect she was married to a Crutchfield at one time also. She died in Orange County, CA on 22 May 1937.

Yes this makes sense Samuel M Guynn was her uncle and and part of the family, I will contact the owner of the memorial and I will remove the one I have that has her in Fairhaven. Thank you so much for finding her grave. I think my cousin Greg Goff is buried along side them there as well
Thank you for photographing this grave for me.

I would be interested in taking on the task of photographing a section if you would tell me what areas are needed. Do you know what might need done in Santa Ana Cemetery also? Do you have a template you could share on essential information to gather while taking photos?
Thank you again,

Re: Find A Grave Memorial# 145224992;
Thank you very much for the speedy request of a photo of my uncle's gravestone. You and your contributions to Find A Grave are greatly appreciated! I value what you have posted to this website.
Much success to you and yours,
|Sandy V||RE: Fairhaven Cemetery|
My son and I went out to Fairhaven yesterday and did use a story to find a few sites. We were able to find two of the three, but the third was not listed at Fairhaven. I am figuring she is probably buried under her maiden name, which I didn't have at the time, but do now. As we walked around, I snapped photos of other grave markers in case they are not posted or needed. It was peaceful and I felt like I was helping out, so I don't know if "enjoyable" would be an appropriate word, but I will be doing this again. Thank you for the information regarding the warning of telling the office my real mission. I do have family and friends out there, so at least that made it more plausible. Have a great rest of the weekend.
