THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

|McMolly||RE: Donald Wilson Request|
Hey Chris: Nice to hear from you.
I called the cemetery this am to get his plot location and directions. I edited that to his file here. I asked the lady in the office for directions to find him.....she only told me she has a a map. They leave the office earlier then they post too as this is the 2nd time this has happened. Well, after my medical appointment, I was looking forward to going out there, which I did. On the phone, they make it sound like it's sooooo simple to find them. Honestly, I ran all over the yard twice, and could never find this section.
To make a long story short, I was not able to find him until they moooooooshed me out of there. Now I have to go back. But it's not a problem...maybe tomorrow. I'll keep my own map on hand for the future. Your request is only my third between two cemeteries.....
Recently, I did take some artistic shots around the grounds... I like them. Do you want a limited number, like 4 or so, on his page here, or do you want to see for yourself...... If YOU want them, give me your email address and I'll start uploading them from my camera... Those are ready to go.. And I am happy to do this for you...

Just a note to say thank you for the very nice photo of the grave stone for my cousin Joseph Ochetti.

You're welcome Chris, and thank you for your kind words. I always take an area photo so that folks can get a real feel for what the burial location looks like. And I take close-ups if the stone is hard to read or if there is a portrait on it. Sometimes no matter what I try, the markers can be hard to read. Like tarnished plaques in the dimly lit mausoleums. What a challenge!
Are you in OC? I've seen your name on lots of stuff.

Trust me, if anything happens, I'll be the first to tell the admins that I was the one that goofed and not you!! I realized what I did when I saw that your request was removed and was mortified. (where's the "undo" when you need it, right?) Let me know if need me to fess up to my senior moment. LOL
Thanks for all you do for FindAGrave as well!

I'm so sorry! I'm so glad you wrote, you are correct. You did not ask for a rubbing of that stone. There was another request for another memorial in Walnut Grove Cemetery that did ask for a rubbing with chalk and I meant to send that response for that one.
However, I intended to send a response for your request to let you know that there is a photo of Biddie Barker's gravestone that I took in 2013 here:
The memorial that you had requested was not initially entered as Biddie Ann Barker, so I missed it when I was uploading photographs in Walnut Grove (or I never would have created the one that I did in 2013).
I have notified FindAGrave and asked for a merge of the two memorials.
In the meantime, if you'd like to use the photo that I took for your own research purposes, you have my permission to do so.
Again, I'm so sorry that I sent the wrong response to you.
