Bio

I was born and raised in Rockingham North Carolina. After graduation from high school I enlisted in the US Army for 3 years. Three turned into almost 23 years.

I have lived in 8 different states, served 4 1/2 years in Germany, (Aschaffenburg and Schweinfurt), and visited the great desert city of Baghdad, Iraq. I also spent a short stint of time in California and Colorado for training. I retired in June 2005 at Fort Hood Killeen Texas, as a First Sergeant and returned to North Carolina where we now reside.

I am married with three children, two grown and one 5 year old:-) I enjoy doing just about anything outdoors: woodworking, metal detecting, (coins and civil war relics), history and research, shooting (as a "Scout" in the Army I have shot just about everything from a 9MM pistol to an M-1 Tank), volunteer work, and I am our family historian. I am in the process of putting together a book of my family history. I have a Federal Firearms License and sell firearms on the side. I also coach a little league soccer team (4-6 y/o) twice a year with our local Parks and Recreation.

My family is active in our church (Midway Baptist) where we do all the maintenance, grounds and building work at no charge to the church. (I do not believe one should charge the/your church for work performed in maintaining the grounds, etc...) It saves the church money to use on more important things in the church.

I enjoy contributing to Find A Grave. I like to help others locate and find their relatives grave sites. I like to think I am helping others find some closure or complete a family tree. I have met a lot of nice people through Find A Grave and it makes me feel good when I can help. That is my gratification....:-)

My family surname research includes: Benton and Spears (Fla, Ga and Ala), Bennett's in NC, Sweatt, Sweat, Swett and Suit (NC, SC and Ga), Boone, Boon, Bone, Boan (NC, SC and Ga), Craig (NC and SC), Lucas, Lucust (NC and SC), Harris in East NC....and more as we go back in time. If you think your family crosses mine somewhere get in touch with me and I will assist in any way I can. You can also find me on Ancestry.com.

If I can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to ask. Drop a note here and I will do what I can. All I ask is please pass on the good will by helping someone else either here or in your community:-)

Gotta go....Take care.
