|John Field Pankow||Mrs. Donahue, Memorial # 112773194|
Can you tell me anything more about Mrs. Donahue, buried at Fortress Monroe, your Find A Grave Memorial # 112773194
Do you suppose she could be a Confederate widow? I know the yankees locked up a number of Southern civilians in Fortress Monroe, the most famous one being Jefferson Davis. And I know they didn't scruple to imprison Southern ladies, either, evidence Belle Boyd, Rose O'Neal Greenow, and that lady in New Orleans, the Congressman's wife. This is probably a long shot, but a 4th great aunt of mine, Lina O'Neal (c. 1832) married a James M. "Dunahoe" (c.1830/2-15 Oct. 1862). Their son later spelled his name "O'Donoghue." They were living in Anson County, NC in 1860, with children, Elvira, 9, Sarah, 7, and Martin, 2. James enlisted in Co. H, "Fisher's Light Infantry," 43rd NC Regiment, CSA. The record states he was "mustered out" ie. killed or died, on 15 Oct. 1862, at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. I can't find anything about his wife and daughters, and the son disappears until the 1880 census, when he shows back up in Anson Co., NC. I was actually looking for Dunahoe, Donahue and O'Donoghue memorials in Virginia thinking I might find the soldier's grave, but turned up your Mrs. Donahue. Think this could be my Aunt Lina?
I would be most grateful for any information you could give me.

|4th Michigan Infantry||Fortress Monroe burials|
I was wondering if you could look through your research information regarding the burials at Fortress Monroe, Virginia for me? I am trying to see if the names of two Civil War soldiers from the Fourth Michigan Infantry are buried there. The soldiers names are Thomas Prestle (may have been buried under the name Thomas Pertit) and the other soldier was A.Piper. I am interested in locating the burial sites for these two men and would appreciate your help immensely. Can I ask what was the source for the material used for the memorials you have posted for that cemetery? It appears that it was a government record ledger by the looks of the photos.
