I became interested in genealogy several years ago, while attending a family reunion. Someone made the statement "If someone doesn't write this information down, then it's going to be lost". I realized how true that was, so I began my searches. I think "Family" is very important, and sometimes younger generations don't think much about the present time, then later begin to wonder. Of course, after all the info has been gathered, then family members request copies of the info, which I am happy to share.
Now that I have become aquainted with Find A Grave, I am trying to get as much info and photos added, as possible, to help others locate their loved ones.

Gustave H Kortge I have a question about the parents of Gustave H Kortge (#122228903). There are 2 men named Karl Kortge in the Moravian Cemetery, West Salem, Edwards, IL - one born in 1811 (#12232523) and one born in 1838 (#122319704). Gustave's mother is shown as Dorothy Schmidt, born 1820 (#122352360). I wonder if Gustave is linked to the wrong Karl. On the New York Passenger list Karl is shown as being 10 years older than Dorothy not 18 years younger. I found this when I was asked to put Karl and Dorothy as a woman's parents in her bio and got very confused as to which Karl was her father. Hope you can solve the problem so I can link the woman to the correct parents. Thank you and sorry to cause you a headache. Adele
