I was born in Charlotte, NC, in 1960. My parents were Ernest and Maxine Hartis. I was raised in Indian Trail, NC, and Lake Wylie, SC. I have two brothers, Ken and Sam. My family lived at YMCA Camp Thunderbird during the 1970s and 1980s. My father was maintenance director there. I graduated from Clover High School and Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. I worked for more than 25 years at The Herald newspaper in Rock Hill. I enjoy playing bass guitar in jazz bands, and I enjoy playing tennis. I like reading Revolutionary War and Presidential history. My wife, Edith, and I have one daughter, Audrey, who graduated from Northwestern High School in Rock Hill and now attends Clemson University.
