"Dear Ancestor"

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.

It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.

Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.

I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

RE: Laurel Hill Cemetery
Thanks. I'll have to search my FTM program of the family buried there. I have about 13,000 in my tree so that info is not memorized.

RE: Laurel Hill Cemetery
Do you happen to remember which person (if specific) I was wondering about?

I think the answer is no, unless he had a first marrige, but I don't think he did.

Hi Cindy,

I see your edit to change her name to Myrtle and Ruth to a nickname. Did some checking on Ancestry and everything from the census when she was 10 years on refers to her as Ruth. Half the trees I saw show Myrtle, but the other half show Ruth. I'm going to go ahead and put a note in the bio section that her original order may have been Myrtle Ruth instead of Ruth Myrtle, but at this point I think changing her first name would just be confusing, since she seems to have gone by Ruth for at least 82 of her 92 years.

Thanks Cindy, for letting me know about the duplication I made to my Howard second cousin's sons memorial page. I deleted that one.

Cindy,

Can you tell me how you know that the parents listed for her are not her parents? Also, do you know who her parents are? I found a book in the genealogy library in Salt Lake City that had some information that I was interested in, and I copied page 90 from that book on deaths of people in Iowa. Her name, birth and death dates were listed on that page with the cemetery and parents. It also listed her as being the wife of C.C. Can you help me with this?

Richard
