I was born and raised in Chariton County, Missouri.
My grandfather lived less than a mile from where he was born and raised and would have made a wonderful genealogist. In the summertime, we didn't have a TV, we would sit on the front porch and talk. Often the subject turned to dead people and I was so bored! But he planted a little seed of interest that took years to grow.
I started out on the Welch family with a used envelope, where my grandmother had copied on the back(with a lead pencil),the birthdates and names of John and Matilda Welch's 14 children, from a family Bible. Actually I just wanted to know the story of the 2 Welch "boys" that were killed in a fence dispute, I had heard so many tales about it.
Now I research the names, WELCH, MOXLEY, MORGAN and JONES, plus so many more in the Chariton County area and where they have gone.
I also am looking for HOFFMAN,McClure, HARMAN,and ENGEL in the St. Charles, Warren and Montgomery counties area.
