|Carolyn Lloyd||RE: Allen Cemetery|
Dorothy, while we were in SC my husband and I did go to the Allen AME church cemetery. I added two photos of the church. The cemetery is right behind it. I took a few pictures and filled the one photo request at that location. My camera battery died so only added a few names and photos to this cemetery. The graves are laid out in random order to there is still plenty to do out there. I won't be back in the area to complete this. The church and cemetery are located at 16 Shelter Church Rd in Burton just off Hwy 21 near the Marine Air Base. The church was all ready entered at findagrave with a few names added. Nice to know about the other Allen cemetery. Maybe some direction could be added in case anyone else is trying to find it.
Thanks for your help.

You have requested 4 photos in Allen Cemetery in Bluffton. I was there on vacation and thought I would look it up. No one I spoke to by phone in Bluffton or at the Heritage library in Hilton Head knew of a cemetery with that name. There is a Bluffton Cemetery on HWY 46 with no name in front of it. I checked this cemetery online at findagrave and the names you want are not listed there. Bluffton Cem. is large and not easy to find people. Would you have any idea where the Allen cem. is or if it might have another name. The obit added for Robert Watson on his memorial page says burial is at Allen Chapel AME Church Cemetery which is on Shelter Church Rd. in Burton, SC near the Marine Corp Base. Wish I could have found the cemetery for you.

Happy to be of help. I enjoy going after the hidden ones, although this cemetery is quite accessible. Hope I can help you in the future.

Sixteen gate is larger and still being used. It is on the water side. I've got to check into the name of the older (smaller) one accross the street.
There are two cemeteries on Boundary Street at Greenlawn. One is on the water side and the other at the corner of Greenlawn Drive.
Are they two different cemeteries? Different names? One has 294 stones and the other 87.
Which is which?
Thank you. Dorothy Pace

You're very welcome. We photographed the entire cemetery, so let me know if there are others that you'd like to have.

sorry they were not better
very top row
and they won't let you use the ladder unless they are there --- they lock it up!

Oh, and in this cemetery, "crypt" isn't a building, but a grouping, and pretty meaningless. It doesn't mean indoors.

Hi. I went out again today and had the cemetery office person go out with me, and we carried the print-out of the section (generally 8 plots, 2 rows of four across) with us. What we discovered was that in the top left corner was supposed to be two people buried together in the first plot (let me call them "John" and "Sue"), next to them (L-R) was Edgar, and third was "Mike". But where the record shows Edgar is supposed to be buried, "Sue's" stone was there, not with "John" on the plot they share, but over on Edgar's spot, and Edgar has NO STONE AT ALL. I have a class tonight, but hopefully later I will be loading a photocopy of the burial section card and two photos - one of the three sites/stones (the middle one should be Edgar but is not his stone) and one of the grass where he is buried. If I were you, assuming you are family, I would press for the cemetery to move the incorrect stone to where it should be, and they will make a stamped concrete marker for Edgar and put it in place. They will first have to verify that their records are accurate and that Edgar is, indeed, buried there.

As you know this is a very old and not well maintained resting place. I found four of your six requests and they have been posted. I could not find Ms. Jenkins (although there were other Jenkins buried there) nor could I find the infant Stevenson. Unfortunately some of the metal grave markers are completely obliterated. So sad...

How would I go about finding information on Palmett Bluff cemeteries? I was going thru SC cemeteries on Find A Grave and came across Moreland cemetery. I took a ride to Palmetto Bluff development, they have a guard. I asked the woman about the Moreland cemetery, long story short, she told me there are 22 cemeteries in the development. She stated they are private. She told me about Rephraim cemetery, being a paupers cemetery. I asked if I could see it, she told me she would call security and he would open the gate for me. Took some pics. Need to go back and finish taking pics. There is probably 150 headstones there. I have the names of 3 other cemeteries in there. They are, Landings, Octagon, and Screven (they are not on Find a Grave). I do not know the rest of the names. I don't know where to go to find out info about these cemeteries, I believe some of them are family plots. I would like to put them on Find A Grave if I could. I'm supposed to be speaking with Security of Palmetto Bluff to see if I can go back in. I told them it was a genealogy project. Can cemeteries be private? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. How did you make out with Pritchard and Mitchell headstones? The Allen cemetery is going to take a little time, I'm trying to find a way in to this cemetery, it is deep in the woods and there is about 20 to 25 headstones there. I wish I could figure out who to call. There has to be a way they get the people who are going to be buried there in there. I can't believe if someone is going to the burial they have to walk way in the woods. Maybe the funeral home could help with directions, ya think? Again, I appreciate any help you could give me. If there's anything I can help you with, let me know.
