I mainly am posting friends and relatives at this time but hope to have the time to expand to others such as when I come across burial records from an old church (St. Thomas in Ontario for example). I love to do research and especially love the story behind the people.

RE: William Martin Washington Cty
According to the 1900 census, William Martin was born in Indiana with both of his parents born in North Carolina.

Mary Polly Wheeler
Robert Martin married Nancy Ann Wheeler. Her brother, Isham Wheeler went to Newton County, AR first after the Civil war and Robert and Nancy Ann moved there year or so earlier. It is her father, George Wheeler that we first found Robert's name in the 1850 census living with them. WHY he was not living with his father, Jeremiah is a mystery, other than if Jeremiah was "on the run" because of the murder charge against him. What kind of family history do you have on your line that may shed light on Jeremiah??

RE: Habersham Cty marriages

Jeremiah Martin Indicted on Murder Charge

From what we were able to put together through various records, William Goodson who appeared on 1830 Habersham Co, GA census with wife Sarah ___? and three young daughters was murdered by Wyley Anderson in 1831. Apparently Jeremiah Martin and Jesse Anderson were also charged, but other details are not known. After the death of William Goodson, Sarah then md Ambrose Fitzgerald who applied for guardianship of the children in 1839. In 1847 Jarrett N Dover applied to court to have Ambrose Fitzgerald removed as guardian. Matilda was already md to Jarrett Dover so, I assume, this must have been for the benefit of younger sisters?

The Georgia Black Book, Vol 1 by Robert Scott Davis Jr:
pg 143 - #78 - On 5 Aug last, Wylly Anderson murdered William Goodson in Habersham County. Issued 4 Oct 1831. Anderson is a small man, black eyes and hair, quick spoken & has been charged with the commission of many crimes.

RE: Martin Tribe
Just called Janice Cowin, another Wheeler/Martin relative. She comes into the Martin's through the Wheeler's who also lived in Habersham and Walker County before moving onto Newton County, AR. My grandfather James C. Martin memorial #26396748 was the son of Madison Martin..Robert E. Martin's son. My grandfather who went by several aka's abandoned my grandmother and 6 children when she was 10. My mother found him when she was 35 in Prairie Grove, WASHINGTON COUNTY. Madison's 2nd wife was Mary Neal, who was from that county. My grandfather died in Fayette (county seat) of Washington County and buried in an unmarked grave in Prairie Grove. Your information is VERY INTERESTING, as Janice and I know next to nothing about Jeremiah Martin other than he married Polly Wheeler. The Wheeler's marry the Martin's several times in GA and AR. Janice and I are very interested that your Jeremiah lived in the mtns in GA..as we had heard that our Jeremiah had "killed" someone and don't know where he ended up. Our Robert Martin seemed to have been raised by George Wheeler (his future wife's family). He served in Civil War from Walker County, was a prisoner of war and after the wart moved around 1869 to Arkansas. Janice and I are excited to hear from you and ANY possibility our Jeremiah's are the same.

RE: Albert Hoffman
You're welcome. I don't remember either, but that's quite all right. I haven't done much family history lately. My husband's mother passed away and we found out we are having our first grandchild in July so I have had my mind elsewhere. I am going to try to get back into my research. Let me know if I can help any way. Debbie H.

I believe these may be the same people you are looking for. Not only are the birth dates nearly the same, so is the marriage date. Too many coincidences to not be the same, or so it seems.

Lorinda: Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgotten you. I tried calling the Mt. Vernon cemetery and the number I could find is no longer in service. Spoke to a funeral home and that was the number they were showing, so I have a call in to the Atchison Historical Museum, to see who has the records. That cemetery is so large, a person could not easily walk it to find a grave. So I will keep trying to find what I can about Albert. I went to Mary & Earl's grave at Mt. Moriah yesterday and was just wondering if you had the dates for Robert and Betty Virginia Hoffman. I have them and a picture of the headstone if you need it. Debbie
