Bio

Dr. Lyndon Irwin is a retired Professor at Missouri State University. He was born and raised in Vernon County, Missouri, southwest of Nevada. He has always had an interest in local history, perhaps because he had grandparents who enjoyed sharing their stories. He has collected memorabilia and stories from Vernon County for many years and specializes in the towns of Nevada, Bronaugh and Moundville. He has written seven genealogy and local history books. Two books are comprehensive histories of early Moundville and Bronaugh. The latest consists of a compilation of stories from Nevada, mo up to 1910. He has also had an historical agricultural research and has been particularly interested in the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. He has served as a writer of the documentary, "The World's Greatest Fair", which has aired on PBS. He has also assisted with the "Electric Pencil" project related to art work completed by a patient at the State Insane Asylum in Nevada over many years. Irwin has an extensive collection of images from the Asylum and also has collected extensive information about the early years of the asylum. He also enjoys finding old identified photos at antique shows and trying to help them find their way back to relatives. So many of the photos that are posted on here are NOT relatives of mine.
