I became involved with find a grave because of my interest in genealogy. I've been working on our genealogy since 1994, and found such helpful people on find a grave. I decided it was time to give back, so that's why I became a contributor. I began by creating memorials for family members and friends, and then branched out into creating memorials from newspaper obits and death notices. I believe that every person deserves to have a memorial, because every life is precious and each person is important. Although health problems prevent me from taking photos at the cemeteries, I can contribute in this way, and hopefully it will help others.

NOTE: Time is precious and we don't have enough of it. I am happy to make edits, however, if you ask to have "Mrs" removed to a memorial, I will not do that. I am a genealogist. "Mrs" is an important clue when searching for someone. It is evidence of that person having been married. Likewise, I will not add a "Mrs" to a memorial unless it is in the obit or on the gravestone. Please do not waste my time and yours by sending suggestions regarding "Mrs".
Similarly, if an obit states her surname as "Smith", and she was formerly married to a "Jones", all names will be included in the name on the memorial. This will ensure that the person is found when doing a findagrave search. The searcher does not always know the latest name of the deceased, therefore, this will be of great value in finding the person when having limited information. After all, the aim of findagrave is to find a grave, isn't it?
NOTE: Within the past year some findagrave contributors have literally swamped my email inbox with edits, and also swamped my findagrave edits page with pages and pages of edits. Findagrave rules state that a contributor cannot submit more than 20 edits in a week to another contriibutor. I will not do these edits. I realize we all want to see these memorials edited, but have some thoughtfulness, consideration and understanding! Each contributor has a life and responsibilities outside volunteering for findagrave. Keep in mind that those of us who manage thousands of memorials get many, many edits each week. All the more reason to be thoughtful and mindful.
