For as long as I can remember I have been going to the cemeteries of my relatives on Memorial day because it was important to my parents. They always taught me not to step on the graves out of respect for the dead. Now I find myself doing it all the time to get the right shot. I have always liked hearing about my family history but have just recently starting really getting into it. Then I found find-a-grave. WOW! I was hooked right away! I've told people this is like Easter and Christmas all wrapped into one. You have to hunt the graves and then you get to unwrap the mystery. I love doing this and get so much fulfillment from it. |
I am researching the Cotterman's, Severing's, Self's, Whitmer's, Overmyer's, Wyrick's and Larimer's. Most of my family came from Germany to PA in the 1700's then settled in Perry Co, Ohio.
I am glad that there are sites such as find-a-grave because I have been in a lot of cemeteries that are not going to be there soon and need to be photographed while they can to have a record of them.
If you want to use my pictures I have taken, please feel free to do so. I don't need any recognition. I do this to help other people.

*** I have recently (2012) read about people not wanting to transfer memorials to people if they are not of the immediate family category (Mom's, dad's, brother's, sister's, and grandparent's). I do not understand why! If I have a memorial that is not in the above category and you are related somehow (I don't care how) and I am not related, I have no problem transferring the memorial. If someone else wants to manage the memorial, I will let them. I mainly add memorials just to get the info on here. I am not in this for the glory of saying, "Look at how many memorials I have created!"

Thank you so much for the fast response in photographing the graves of my husband's gr gr grandparents. We knew very little about them and this helps to make the family seem more complete. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for the photo of William's tombstone.
Thanks very much for all your hard work. I am Scottish and am a direct descendant of the Robert Sneddon (1850 - 1915). His father was my ggg grandfather.
He was a miner, policeman before becoming spirit merchant in Linlithgow Scotland. He became bankrupt and sailed for the USA in 1882. Most of his brother and sisters emigrated as well. His Brother Walter was killed in the Benwood, West Virginia, mining disaster of 1924. Walter's son was also killed in the mine that day.
I am in contact with some of my descendants in the states so will pass your material onto them.
Once again, thanks, it means a lot to me.
Sorry for my late reply but I have just got back from holiday.

Thanks for the photo of Wallace, Mabel and Clarence Spencer's marker.

Thanks for looking for her headstone. I must've clicked onto the headstone photo request before I realized that she was in the cemetery transcript as having no headstone, then I forgot to remove the request. I've removed it now and it's mentioned on her memorial that the cemetery transcript indicated that she had no headstone at that time. Sharon
