I enjoy searching for family information. Most of my immediate ancestors are from McCracken and Marshall County Kentucky. With the surnames of Vannerson, Beyer, McCain and Bailey. |
I do not come from royalty (darn) but I do have a very famous ancestor, Julian Vannerson. He was a famous civil war photographer and many of the photos of General Lee in his uniform were taken by Julian.
On a side note... There is a photograph that has never been seen by the general public. Julian sent 3 photos home for safe keeping and one of them hung over the fireplace in the family home unfortunately it was stolen while the family was attending a funeral. If you have seen an original work of Julian Vannerson taken during the Civil War era and it's not in the history books there is a good chance this is the missing photo and the family would like to have it back where it belongs. Thank you.
Why do I have so many memorials?
First and foremost I AM NOT PLAYING A NUMBERS GAME!!
I give of my time and resources because I love being able to help others find a missing piece of their family. I also love the format that Find A Grave provides. A FREE resource for family members to aid in their research and the ability to leave a message in memory of them.
The majority of the memorials I've added are not my family. When I went to a cemetery to fulfill a photo request I would often find many stones in the area with the same family name on them. I would photograph and post those as well if a memorial was not already made. It is my hope that it would help family members locate lost family members or aid in their research. That proved to be very valuable to one particular person as she had been hunting for an ancestor for years and had almost given up hope of ever finding them.
I have also walked entire cemeteries looking for all tombstones with the same surnames on them in order to assist fellow contributors.
I also became frustrated with a very large cemetery who would charge $5.00 per name to look up a burial plot. Thinking this was wrong and it should free to the public, I along with my husband set forth on a mission to document every grave in that cemetery and then turn my spreadsheets over to the historical society. He and I have spent weeks on this major project.
That my fellow friends is why I have so many memorials. It is not a numbers game and I will gladly transfer any of my memorials so they may be maintained by family members. I am honored to have had the opportunity to photograph and/or document a piece of family history for you and for future generations.
I have photographs for almost every memorial that I have created for Valhalla Cemetery and many, many more. We are talking thousands. I will be posting these throughout the spring and summer. Due to the large amount of photos I am posting them by sections and perhaps can fulfill some requests as I come across them. If you have made memorials for that cemetery please be aware that you may see an increase in family links and edits.
Woo-hoo, let the good times roll.

THANK YOU for searching the cemetery for Noble Simpson - Section F, 154B. Please take a picture of the burial plot. That way, in the future, myself or others wont request another photo forgetting the fact there is NO MARKER.
THANKS for your time.
I also will take photos of others while I am searching for headstones.

Thank you for the headstone pics for Nettie & Ray Nash - I wasn't even sure I had the right cemetery. You do an excellent job! My hope is that some day, a person will be able to walk thru a cemetery with their smart phone & either be able to locate a specific stone, or just get a little history of the people there. Thanks again - another family member 'found'!
