I was born in Woodstock, Virginia, and grew up in Mt. Jackson. My father died when I was 13 months old, so it was just my mom and me until I was married. My mom was a teacher and taught my 6th grade year in Thailand and my junior year in Kenya and took me with her. After I was married, we lived in Indiana for 5 years, New Jersey for 5 years, and then we moved to the Santa Cruz Mtns. in CA where we have lived since 1977 and raised 3 children. My husband grew up in N.Va. We both love coming back to the Shenandoah Valley, so we bought a tiny retreat in the mountains near where we were married in Orkney Springs. We come back for a month every spring and for about two months in the fall. I can never get too much of driving the back roads and roaming through the cemeteries. I have always enjoyed hearing my mom and her brothers and sisters tell old family stories. In 2007 my husband and I updated a Bowman genealogy book and added 2,000 names.
