I have been interested in genealogy since about 1995. I live in Mount Airy, North Carolina. I believe this website to be a valuable tool to amateur and professional genealogists if used with the "trust but verify" mentality.|
I add memorials to cemeteries where I have personally walked and photographed each headstone/marker. If you find one of my memorials without a photo, please be patient. I am adding them as I can. If you would like for me to add it more quickly, please just go through the normal photo request option.
I do my best not to duplicate memorials. I index my photos and add the names as inscribed on the headstone/marker to the cemeteries in which I find them. I may edit that information later as I find additional data. I do not feel it necessary for me to arbitrarily delete a memorial that I created if you move a memorial into that cemetery after the fact and don't disclose that information. This is FIND a Grave.
If you have created a memorial and had it in a different cemetery or a virtual cemetery in lieu of finding the correct cemetery, simply say so and I will be happy to delete mine and add any photos I have to your memorial if needed.
My lines include the Killoughs (mostly Mississippi) and Wolfes (Tennessee and Texas) on my mother's side and Johnson's and Stancliff's (mostly from the Philadelphia/South Jersey areas).
My wife's lines include the Hiatt's that have been in the Surry County, NC area for about 200 years.

Mrs. Bernice Hazel Greear Sutphin, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, January 17, 2016, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Sutphin was born August 31, 1930, in Russell County, VA, the daughter of the late Charles Ernest and Pauline Crowder Greear. Bernice retired from Brown-Wooten Mills and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Bennett of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron Sutphin, Sr. and Jane Sutphin of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Ron Sutphin, Jr. and his wife, Mamie, of Ararat, and Will Sutphin and his wife, Charity, Ashley Bennett and her fiancée, Dustin Hull, and Douglas Bennett and his special friend, Yana Welch, all of Mount Airy; six great-grandchildren, Sid Sutphin, Mac Sutphin, Charlie Sutphin, Molly Thomas, Lua Hull, and Draven Hull; three stepgrandchildren, Heather Chaney, Joshua Chaney, and Tyler Easter; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Annabelle Marion of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutphin was preceded in death by her husband, Hoston Charlie Sutphin; two sisters, Agnes Stallard and Arnell Greear; and two brothers, Cleo Greear and Glenn Greear. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Floyd Enzor officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Ron Sutphin, Sr. and Jane Sutphin at 196 Welch Road, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.

Mr. Donald Ferguson, 88, of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Raleigh, County WV on February 17, 1927 to the late William Harvey and Mary Eliza Mayes Ferguson Binkowski. Mr. Ferguson was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery and was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Edna Bolen Ferguson of the home; a son, Randal Ferguson of Winston Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and John Oliver of Fredericksburg, VA; a half-sister and husband, Kathy and Alex Chorowiec of Elkton, MD; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by a son, Terry Scott Ferguson; three brothers, Ned, Bill and Dick Ferguson; two half-brothers, Dean and Keith Ferguson. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. Mrs. Virginia Lee Reynolds Martin, 92, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Lee County, NC on July 2, 1923 to the late Andrew Harrison and Candice Reynolds. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for all her family and was well known throughout the family that they were always welcome to come and join her for a meal. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law. Margaret Parks of Mt. Airy, two sons and daughters-in-law, L.M. “Billy” and Darlene Wilson of Cana, VA, Charles Vaughn of Woolwine, VA, Roger and Robin Vaughn of Martinsville, VA Mitchell and Donna Wilson of Mt. Airy; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Moore of Stoney Point, NC; sisters-in-law, Maggie Reynolds, Ruth Phillips and Barbara Inman all of Mt. Airy, and a brother-in-law, Frank Martin of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Pate Martin; a son, Steve Wilson; sisters, Elsie Reece, Bessie Reynolds, Mary Williams and Nora Eaton and one brother, Curtis Reynolds. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens with Ted Turman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, January 15, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Mr. Roy Lee Hiatt, 77, of Mt. Airy passed away at his home Tuesday, December 29, 2015. He was born in Surry County on December 25, 1938 to the late James Garfield and Ila Maggie Niston Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt graduated from Catawba College, where he was a member of the tennis team. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Mr. Hiatt retired from Perry Manufacturing as plant manager for the Dobson office and he was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Hiatt delighted in cheering for his favorite team, “go Tarheels”. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Celeste Leigh and Troy O. Poindexter; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy Derrick and Donna J. Hiatt; five grandchildren, Cody Hiatt, Chandler Hiatt, Cherie Hutchison and husband, Michael, Paul Hooker, Jr., David Hooker and wife, Lara, ; five great grandchildren, Michael Hutchison, Charity Hutchinson, Naomi Hooker and James Hooker Daniel Hooker; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Ellen Hiatt; and the many dear friends from Pro Health where he enjoyed playing Pickle Ball, the Silver Sneakers classes, but most of all the visits with friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Sue Collins Hiatt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion King Post 290. Mr. Marion Camden “Cam” Burge, 85 of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at Central Continuing Care. He was born in Patrick County, VA on June 7, 1930 to the late Walter and Nora Stanley Burge. Mr. Burge bravely served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Franklin Heights United Methodist Church and retired as manager from Advance Auto after 43 years of service. Mr. Burge is survived by his devoted wife of almost 65 years, Lala “Wimpie” Draughn Burge of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Wally and Alma Burge of Kinston, Juan and Susan Burge of Greensboro; grandchildren, Vanessa Soffe and husband, Dixon of Fayetteville, Camden Burge, Greenville and Hanna Burge of Greensboro; the first great granddaughter, Ava, due to arrive in March, 2016; a sister, Gladys Blankenship of Martinsville, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burge was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, James, Herbert and Carl Burge. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis “Bud” Cameron officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by VFW Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Mrs. Miranda Lee Goins Dodson, 78, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Mitchell County on September 11, 1937 to the late Ralph and Brintey Stamey Goins. Mrs. Dodson was retired from Hutchens Laundry and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. She is survived by her husband, Oscar Alvin Dodson of the home; two daughters, Deborah Wolfe of the home, and Ramona Christine Dodson of Concord; two sisters, Eva Mae Setzer, and Maxine Kirchin both of Hickory. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Benfield officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the church. Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
