Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Joey. I started doing family research and came up short. One good thing that happened though was I found this site. I used to hate cemeteries,I used to get cold chills when driving by one. Now I think how every tombstone had a family that cried on it, and how everyone I know that has passed deserves an online memorial. Nothing can explain the feeling I get when creating an online memorial,or claiming a picture of a tombstone. If you are related to someone I have created a memorial for and not happy with it, please let me know. I do this to pay tribute and my intentions are good, but I understand not everyone shares my interest in online memorials.

p.s If someone takes the time out of their busy day to take a picture of a grave you requested, take the time to thank them. It may be a hobby, but it still deserves recognition.

Also, I have noticed a lot of my pictures being used without my permission so I am going to start using a copyright/watermark on my photos. I will keep an original copy of each picture for family members and friends.

RE: Little help here
I found an Opal Riley in the 1910 census from Lawrence county, Kentucky whose parents were William and Susan Riley but it has Opal's age as 5 which would put her being born in 1905 not 1909. There are siblings Edward and Marie Riley and Susan's mom is listed as Louisa Shortridge (widowed and listed as white not Native American) born approx 1841 in KY but her parents were born in VA. "Shortridge" sounds Native American?? Hmmm. Was Opal's Dad possibly the one who was Native American or do you know? I don't even know if this is the right "Riley" family.

RE: Little help here
Also, do you know any of Opal's siblings names? Sometimes that helps when you are trying to go backwards and find any trace of the family on census' or birth records. I'm having trouble finding Opal on the 1910 census or 1920 census with her (Riley) family. I was hoping to find her and then see what state her parents were born in and keep going backwards from there to see if anything Native American related popped up.
I couldn't find any marriage records in WV for your Lilburn and Opal but I did find that Lilburn was married prior to Opal to a Nona Webb in 1917 but it appears she died in 1922 of what looks like a miscarriage but the handwriting is sloppy. As of the 1920 census they didn't have any children. I wonder if Lilburn and Opal were married in Kentucky or Ohio? I figure they were married in either 1924 or 25 as a William Everett Ferguson appeared on the 1930 census as a wee lad and then your grandmother Janet appeared on the 1940 census as the youngest of 5 children. Let me know anything else because now it's a quest. :)

RE: Little help here
Hi Joey,

Sorry for the late reply. Have you done any research on Ancestry.com or Familysearch.org? If not, you can email me any more details you have such as year of birth, place of birth, etc. (christyvanzandt@aol.com). My husband's grandmother was married the first time to a Native American (I'm thinking Apache but not sure) and so his cousins had to prove somehow that they were Native American descendants in order to claim benefits. I could ask them if they know how to search for these types of records but since it was so recent they might not have had to search too much. Just let me know if you haven't looked online. I'd be happy to see if I could locate anything.

Joey, the photo of the memorial is all the info I have. The memorial next to her is Dennis Ferguson, #73936142. I don't have any information that ties them together, and I have done an ancestry search in the death records also.

Dr. Phil DiBlasi has all remaining burial records/journals for Eastern Cemetery. If you contact him, he will most likely be able to help you. He will send you copies of everything he has, if there is anything. He will need full name, birth/death date, as it will be more precise. His email address is: pjdiblasi@louisville.edu

Sorry I couldn't help any more than that.
