Bio

Active member of the 99th MIA Project whose mission is the search & recovery of the fallen soldiers reported MIAs (KIA-BNR) after WWII.
My hometown Verviers was a rest area during the Battle of the Bulge. I started to search the ex-battlefields in 1980, focusing on what was called the northern shoulder, and specifically the Elsenborn ridge where the 99th Infantry Division fought. In 1988, while searching near Losheimergraben, border Belgium - Germany, the remains of Pfc Alphonse M. Sito, member of B Co. 394th Inf. were accidentally recovered. Killed the morning of Dec. 16th 1944, his body was left in a foxhole until Sept 29th 1988. Right after the recovery, the 99th Veterans members of the 99th ID Assn as well as volunteers launched the MIA Project to help recover the 36 soldiers of the division still missing. Up to this date, 12 of them have been located, identified and buried on the US soil or in ABMC cemeteries here in Belgium. Check www.miaproject.net for more info.
