My name is Cris West and I am the Administrative Assistant for the Bartholomew County Surveyor. I started here in 1996. Prompted by new cemetery protection laws passed in 2000, my job description was changed to include researching and documenting the location of all burial sites in the county. This is done in hopes of protecting both the cemeteries and the landowners by notifying those who research our survey monuments (mostly private land surveyors and developers) of any visible or invisible cemeteries that might be in the general area of their field work. While I am only researching the location of the sites, I have accumulated many written references down through the decades, mainly from previous cemetery historians before me. I joined this site through the county in order to help identify and locate the cemeteries here. I am also a volunteer for photos on my own time.
