Second Scott's Lifeguard
I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond to the message you left on my profile. I would love to see photos of the soldiers you find from this regiment, and I will add them to my virtual cemetery. My great-great-great Uncle Martin Baxter was a member of this regiment. That is why I am so interested in finding other members.

Thanks for contacting me.

RE: Schimkowitz at Bayside
Hello Anthony,

Thank you for taking the time to research my relatives buried in Bayside Cemetery and for your attempts to locate their graves. Sadly, I am well aware of the state of Bayside. It is a great shame that such dishonour should be set upon any person buried there.

The Schimkowitz family are buried in several plots within Bayside. Additionally, they are listed by different spellings of the surname and many of them Anglicised their surname, e.g. Shim.

From the JewishGen Online Worldwide Burial Registry I can provide the following information about them, some of whom may be unrelated or not yet confirmed to be related.

SCHIMKOWITZ, Jennie, buried 27-Dec-1894, Gate 63 - Moses Montefiore Benevolent Society
SCHIMKOWITZ, Johanna (Heyman), 23-Apr-1885, Gate 63 - Moses Montefiore Benevolent Society
SCHIMKOWITZ, Milli, 8-Feb-1885, Gate 63 - Moses Montefiore Benevolent Society
SCHIMKOWITZ, Fanny, 29-Mar-1892, Gate 77 - Preuschnitzer Chevra
SHIMKIWITZ, Eva, 23-Oct-1883, Undesignated Cemeteries
SHIMKOWITZ, Theresa, 13-Sep-1883, Undesignated Cemeteries
SIMCHOWITZ, Fulda, 10-Feb-1893, Gate 46 - Rodoshkowitz Society

I just realized that I read too quickly. Ida is likely to be a 2nd wife, not a child. (My Abraham's first wife died in 1928.) Checking my records, Bernice might be a daughter-in-law. The dates do work for my Abraham Cowen and I'll be interested to see what you turn up. Thank you again for you thoughtful and kind interest.

RE: Abraham Cowen at Bayside
Hello Anthony and thank you so much for the information you provided regarding the Cowan family! I am truly grateful. Abraham Cowan, the father of a huge brood, has been a mystery to me.

As you might have read on my profile page, I am really interested in linking together families on FindAGrave. I am thrilled to be able to include this father of ten added along with a couple of children I didn't have. I wish I had thanked you earlier, but didn't see your message until just now.

I wish you a very fine holiday season and new year!

No, I did not know that. I'm interested in his daughter Bettina, who married John Anderson, another prominent pawnbroker.

6/1881 m. John Anderson
6/1882 - child 1
2/1884 - child 2
6/1888 - child 3

Something happened - probably Bettina died; and in

5/1891 John m. Fanny Goldsmith ; and then in

5/1894 he m. Ida Lichtenstadter.
4/1895 - child 1
8/1896 - child 2
10/1897 - child 3

What happened to wives 1 and 2, where and when? Where are they buried? Ida is buried in Mt. Carmel, but not John. Where is he? Any possibiity that Bettina Harlam Anderson or Fanny Anderson are at Bayside?

I am amazed and so pleased that you were able to take this picture. It filled in several blanks in my research (including that of his wife's name.

I know it is difficult to get into that cemetery and so am especially grateful. Would I be presumptuous in posting more burials in that cemetery?

RE: william mishkofsky at Bayside
Thank you so much! Reading this brought tears to my eyes. I had looked and looked but could not find this stone. I photographed and catalogued everything in Gate 8 to no avail. In the spring I had Abraham Spies' stone picked up along with seven others and Bessie Spies turned out to be one of them but still no Louis. In a week or so CAJEC is going to have the rest of the stones in Gate 8 picked up for me. It seems like fate that Louis' should turn up now. thank you again.
