I started researching my family because my immediate family is tiny. My parents were much older when I was born and when they talked about their relatives they discussed people who lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s. My mother is an only child and my father was adopted!
Luckily, I've found several family branches on my father's side that reach all the way back to the Revolutionary War (both adopted and biological). My mother's line has been more challenging but we are back to the mid 1800s there too and one line reaches the Revolution. It's fortunate that I still live within an hour of where most of my family has lived for almost three centuries!
