I am considered a new member to Find A Grave, having begun in July 2011. Many volunteers have been adding memorials for many, many years and we are thankful for all their efforts. "A heritage should never be forgotten. The resting place of all persons should be marked with a tombstone to honor their memory."
********"Heritage of Etowah County, Alabama"********
A limited supply, but currently have books as of April 2014. Gold embossed hardbound 9" x 12" collector's edition printed on acid-free paper, 314 pages, articles written about Etowah County families and submitted by family members, churches, cemeteries, towns, military, etc. The cases have never been opened, so books are new. You will be surprised at the low cost of these last few cases of books! Every penny will be used by the Etowah County Heritage committee members to buy genealogical books for Gadsden Public Library, Gadsden, Alabama. Etowah County Heritage books - email: email@example.com. We have ONLY Etowah County Heritage books - - contact each county for their separate book. Etowah County published only one book - no second edition.
Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside, Etowah Co., Alabama board member. If you need information on this cemetery, please contact me. I have records of all known burials there and cemetery records dating back to 1960. I have viewed most of the obituaries and added tidbits of information from them to the memorial bio. A second addition to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery book is now in progress.
MEMORIAL TRANSFERS: I WILL GLADLY TRANSFER YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TO YOU, PLEASE JUST ASK.....use the "EDIT" tab on the memorial page - then "Suggest a Correction" and I will have a link to the memorial. This will give me your ID#. Many of the memorials are no relation to me. I, and all the other volunteers, are trying to help future generations. The easier it will be for them for our efforts now. When I am long gone from this earth...I do not want to leave large numbers of memorials that no one can make family links, add data or make corrections. I create every memorial with the hope that their family will find them. I like to find tidbits of information on a memorial - not just a name and dates of birth and death. They were loved by their families, so I think I should show respect and add information if I can locate anything. In view of transfers, I prefer to retain my direct ancestors. Find A Grave memorials are to pay tribute to those who have gone before us and to assist those who are seeking information about their family. Information listed came from grave markers, newspapers, public records; all accessible to the general public.
PHOTOS are not always good; time of day of photo, old, old markers in poor condition and need cleaning, etc. and I will gladly delete my photos if the family makes a request. The only time I add an "overview" photo to someone else memorial is to show location which is a great help in finding a marker in a large area and/or to add data on the photo caption. If you wish for those to be deleted, please let me know. Bad, good or better photos are yours if you want to use them on your records. Smile!
