Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Nancy, a resident of Etowah County, Alabama and a board member of Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Southside, Etowah Co., Alabama. If you need information on this cemetery, please contact me. I have records of all known burials there and cemetery records dating back to 1960. I have viewed most of the obituaries and added tidbits of information from them to the memorial bio. A second edition to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery book is now in progress.
MEMORIAL TRANSFERS: I WILL GLADLY TRANSFER YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TO YOU, PLEASE JUST "Transfer Management" on the memorial page. If you have additions, corrections, etc. use the "EDIT" tab. I will have a link to the memorial and also have your ID#. I will retain management of my own family.
Pictures are worth a thousand words. My photos are not always good; due to the time of day of photo, old, old markers in poor condition which need cleaning, etc., but they are worth a view to someone searching for an ancestor. The only time I add an "overview" photo to someone else memorial is to show location which is a great help in finding a marker in a large area and/or to add data on the photo caption. If you wish for photos to be deleted, please let me know. Bad, good or better photos are yours if you want to use them on your records. While not necessary, credit is always appreciated if you use the photos. Just show Find A Grave and memorial number - no need to show my name. If you wish for a better photo and the cemetery is close by, I will retake a photograph.
Some people feel that obituaries are "private", but it was published in a newspaper for all the world to read!! Often that information assists genealogist in making family ties. Some cemetery staff will not give out any information - even if a person is buried on the cemetery grounds. Well, families put up huge tombstones with name, birth and death dates as well as other bits of information, so it's really not very private. Each of us has our own way of doing memorials, so don't criticize someone else for what they might submit.

............................................"HERITAGE OF ETOWAH COUNTY, ALABAMA"...................................
A limited supply, but currently have books as of July 2014. Gold embossed hardbound 9" x 12" collector's edition printed on acid-free paper, 314 pages, articles written about Etowah County families and submitted by family members, churches, cemeteries, towns, military, etc. The cases have never been opened, so books are new. You will be surprised at the low cost of these last few cases of books! Every penny will be used by the Etowah County Heritage committee members to buy genealogical books for Gadsden Public Library, Gadsden, Alabama. Etowah County Heritage books - email: We have ONLY Etowah County Heritage books - please contact each county for their separate book. I have served on the Etowah County Heritage book committee for more than 15 years.
