On the Bartram or Bertram paternal side of my family I am a direct descendant of Roger de Burton who is my 30 Generations Great Grandfather. Still working on my paternal side (Taylor).|
I will only transfer according to Find A Grave rules, absolute. Exceptions must be made by the administration staff at Find A Grave. Why? Because I did transfer out of guidelines, and those memorials got transferred to people I don't even know - who refuse to identify themselves, not only that - much accurate information has been removed - the memorials that were "stolen" are my uncles and aunts, and 1st and 2nd cousins! They don't even reply to my corrections or return requests.
I do not have a problem in sharing my pictures, but I do ask that you get in touch with me first to identify yourself and to declare what and who you will be using the image for. I do claim copyright and I do not want my pictures used for commercial sites that use the free pictures, yet charge for information. Use the edit button on any memorial that I am managing. A reminder of copyright - only a picture you have taken YOURSELF can be copyrighted not pictures you have borrowed or found somehow. However, Find A Grave can, as a courtesy, give photo credit, should the need be felt by them for various reasons.
I have found the new edit system fantastic, and the administrative staff exceptionally caring, accurate and very quick to delete duplicates, and honor all corrections and the like within a day, never longer. All of my memorials will be transferred to Find A Grave once I am no longer able to contribute. We do not own the memorials, they belong to Find A Grave! But, it is a wonderful research tool.
It's disturbing that contributors and managers seem not to "get this". I fail to understand why so many feel they must manage, as opposed to sharing information. That defeats the purpose of Find A Grave - read the rules. It is not and never has been the intent of Find A Grave to be a Family Tree facility. It's a GRAVE REGISTRY, it's NOT a family tree.
Thank you to those who have been so kind, and to the many friends I have acquired via this media. It's really fun to share!
It's not nice to remove information from a memorial without discussion with the originator, try discussion because you may or may not be correct, nor is it acceptable to lie and cheat, in order to get memorials transferred. You know who you are, shame on you.
