The grandson of Lucy Lane Edwards Deagle, born on Gwynn's Island in 1899, and the son of Martha Edwards Deagle Aldred, born on Gwynn's Island in 1924, I learned about our family ancestor, Hugh Gwynn, and the family's continuous residence on the island since 1635. It's where I learned to fish and crab on the Milford Haven at Edwards Creek, spending lots of time with cousins on the Hudgins, Gay, Edwards, and Deagle side of the family. Grandmother Lucy was a member of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Cricket Hill Chapter, and I later joined the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution, in Norfolk. We are the descendants of Revolutionary War veterans Houlder Hudgins, Thomas Muse Yeatman,and Christopher Tompkins. It is ONLY a coincidence of birth to be descendants of George Reade and Elizabeth Martiau like our cousin George Washington.(Before the war, four Gwynn-Reade marriages, one Reade-Tompkins marriage, and one Reade-Robinson marriage) After the war, our ancestors married Carter Braxton's descendants,James Monroe's sister and niece,and Levin Winder's descendants.
