I am a genealogist at heart and try very hard to find information and links for the memorials I create (and am aware that I am human and do make mistakes) so I am happy to add information and make corrections. |
I am also happy to do transfers but please don't send me a transfer request just stating "transfer it to me so I can update it" or ask me to link to "burial unknowns." Every edit or transfer request I receive gets researched and checked against the people buried near them to see if I can find a connection. So please if you have the information, use the edit tab to send the suggestion and THEN ask for the transfer.
Also I create memorials for families so please do not ask for a transfer because you are collecting Civil War soldiers, Pioneers, or whole cemeteries etc. These were real people, not something to be collected and I refuse to treat them as such.
Thank you to all the volunteers that have added photos, send corrections or shared stories or obituaries with me about the memorials in my care. And to those who kindly accept the many edit/link requests that I send out.
A note about photos:
I have been using the beta photo up-loader and one of its quirks is that it doesn't show you if there is already a photo on a memorial. I have tried to delete any duplicate photos I have accidentally added but if you find I have missed one please feel free to let me know.

John Kempf #107411255
Pauline Kempf (Pietz) #17024170
These two persons buried at Riverside Cemetery Aberdeen SD according to Find-A-Grave.
While searching for the death date for John Kempf.
I also see the posting for Pauline Kempf Pietz)...this last name "Pietz" is in question to me.
In the Ashley Centennial Book 1888-1988 pg 356 there is a history writing about "Gerhard" & Olga Kempf nee Albrecht who is the son of this John Kempf and it also reads the mothers name as Pauline nee Dewald.
Knowing the area where this Gerhard grew up at, I have never heard of any Pietz named persons in the area. However there were Dewald named persons in that area where this Pauline Kempf is from.
Would be interesting to find a death certificate for Pauline to see what her birth last name would be.

I've suggested an edit on his death date. March 26 1985 is on the death certificate. March 28 is on the Lakewood website for both death and burial dates. It seems likely that the death certificate is correct, since it is very unlikely that he could be buried the same day he died.

|Allan Bertsch||Photo for Ben Motis|
Hello Mary T.
My name is Allan Bertsch. I was in Aberdeen, SD yesterday and saw this marker of Ben Motis. His wife is a family member so I would like to share this photo. I am not asking for transfer. I just want to make a more complete listing. If this is not to your liking, delete it.

I have been writing a book for the last eight years about a small Army Company in the 184th Infantry Regiment, Seventh Infantry Division. One of these men that participated in the four military campaigns that this Company fought in was Harold L. Christian. He was born on June 12th 1911 in South Dakota, grew up in Leola. The family had five children, the baby was Warren E. Christian, that was killed in action in the Korean war. If I am not mistaken he is also on Find A Grave. Could this be the same Harold L. Christian? I dont see any information except the parents, which is correct. No information on the children. Please get back to me.. Thank you... Scott...
|Brenda Mason||RE: Lyle V Smith|
Hello Mary T,
I don't know much but the two deceased Children were Gary and Robin (a female, not sure of spelling) Gary was the oldest. Robin was a twin. I believe she would be abt 5th in birth line.
Lyle also had a Sister Ruth and I believe a Brother Lloyd and a Brother Floyd, it could be one in the same.
He had a total of 8 children. The two deceased Children (who grew to Adulthood) have the same Mother. He had/has three sons and 5 daughters. The last daughter is my half sister.
I do believe Lyle had another sister named Grace. I may be able to find more info, but if possible, a private email would be appreciated since I am new.
Thank you for responding so quickly.
|Raymond Russell||Andrew Compton|
I believe that Andrew Compton was my Great Great Grandfather and married first to Margaret Doty Compton. His children from this marriage were Angeline Compton Hoffman (born 1855 died 1950 and she was my great grandmother and buried Mt Hope cemetery Mapleton Monona county, Iowa) George Compton I don't know where he was buried or anything Edwin Compton born 1865 died 1954 married Gertrude Gramly Compton
Margaret Doty Compton died about 1871 and he married a bunch of time with one being the mother to the ones you listed in his spot on find a grave. He was a veteran of the Civil War with Union forces as was his son in law Harvey Hoffman my great grandfather.
|KeyesMcNicholas||Michael Clark, buried Broadland Cemetery, Beadle County, SD|
Hi Mary, I am a bit new to Find A Grave, but see that you photographed the stone of Michael Clark, buried in Broadland Catholic Cemetery, Beadle County, SD. There is some extra info on the Find A Grave site that does not appear to be listed on his stone, such as birthdate and spouse information. Was this information that someone else provided? I am hoping someone else is researching him & is interested in him, as I am trying to reach his descendant to share some information I have. I know this is my Michael because of the regiment he served in and also his spouse's name - who is my family member. I'm not sure how I will hear back from you on this because I don't know how this works, but I will check back on the site for a response. Thanks for all you do - it means so much, especially to those of us searching from afar!
