Photo of Peter Amick
I am writing about the photo you submitted for Peter Amick at the New Market Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Yours is readable. When I was there last week, it was not in good condition and I couldn't get a readable photo. I wanted to use it as part of an application - proof of birth and death date -- to the Society of Indiana Pioneers. How do you feel about this?

7680766 - Wm. Brown
Chris, I would love to have the obituary, and a copy of the short sale document in the probate files about this sale, specifically mentioning a Negro named Len. Can you scan and send? I don't have either of these. Gilbert Marshall also administered the estate of Wm. M. Brown's father, Ruffin Brown in 1838-1840. Ruffin Brown named one of his daughter's Ann Marshall Brown (she married James Harvey Nance). Wm. M. Marshall bought property out of the estate of Ruffin brown, along with all his other siblings. I have tons of info on Ruffin Brown. Lewis Marshall married Ruffin Brown's wife's sister. They all intermarried and were very close back in Virginia. So, do you know where the other Wm. Brown b.Surry Co, VA descends from? If you have researched this group and you are related, please e-mail me so we can discuss further. e-mail is Thanks, Kathy.

Chris, I was wondering if this William Brown is an ancestor of yours? Trying to find out who he is. Our Wm. M. Brown also died in 1847 in Williamson County, TN. I have only found probate/admin. of estate on our William. Just wondering if they might be the same William, and where the children's names might have come from.

Benjamin Truman Hall 1825-1899. Do you have a copy of the obituary used for this memorial. I have a copy of a different obituary (text added to memorial), but the excerpt you added had some different wording. Could you please email me a copy of the obituary, and any information about the newspaper and date you might have. Thanks so very much. Marie email:

RE: Harley Deal
Go to the memorial page I maintain on him, there is a newspaper article and an image of those shoes. I am not a relation so would happily transfer management to any Deal family members who would like to have it under their management. Helen

Oops, Harley Deal.

Deal query
I forgot to ask if you are also related to Harvey Deal? I remember him while growing up in Dickson and his enormous shoes being on display at Nicks Hardware store on Main Street.

RE: Deal Road, Mark Garton Cemetery
How awesome that you are a Deal and Garton descendant! I will send a message to the person who is researching his ancestor in this cemetery and get the name to you. Thanks for the hint on how to look at the inventory of all burials in the Mark Garton Cemetery, I recall that this person was listed on either an old TN death certificate or from data passed on through the family history as being buried there, cannot recall the specifics except that he is from an old, established family who lived in Charlotte at one time. Have a great evening! Helen

RE: Chart for Mark Garton
Well, you did an awesome job on that 'Tree of Life', it really honors your ancestors. No, I am not a Garton descendant, though have looked through that particular cemetery for an individual for another contributor who lives out of state. (Cannot recall the name right now but he is pretty sure his GGG-Grandfather is buried there). There is a request for a headstone image from that cemetery and I was just scrolling through to see who all was being honored and I saw your Garton pages. I actually live not too far from the site, Deal Rd takes me to the Hwy 96 then to the interstate. Love the scenery for the farm it rests in. Helen
