Retired teacher after 35 years, living in Wildwood, FL. Capt. William Cason was my 2nd great grandfather. His son and my great grandfather William Henry Walter Cason, married Josephine Americus Barr, and are buried in Wildwood, FL. Their son, William Walter Cason, was my grandfather, and is buried in Wildwood, FL. William Walter's son was William Charles Cason, and he is also buried in Wildwood's Greenwood Cemetery.

Capt. William Cason was born in Glynn Co. (now Wayne), GA. about 1804. He was a son of Ransom and Phoebe(Munden)Cason. William Cason moved to Florida with his parents in 1823 where they lived for a short time in Nassau Co. before moving on to Alachua Co.

By 1840, William was living single near Fort White in Columbia County, where he remained for the rest of his life.

William married, at the age of 49, to Adeline Goff, in 1853. She was born in Lowndes Co., GA.,about 1834, daughter of James and Mary Goff,No.Carolina natives. William was considered wealthy with large land holdings worth $6,000 in 1860. William had a distinguished record in the Florida Indian Wars. He enlisted in 1836, and was cited several times for his competent service, and afterwards was generally known as Captain Cason. William died March 12, 1871. Adeline died March 31,1871. William Cason's son, William Henry Walter Cason, sold the balance of his father's real estate in 1891, consisting of 4,655 acres in Alachua, Bradford, Columbia, and Suwannee Counties. Note: Mr. Cason was known as "Speckled Bill" Cason in his youth to distinguish him from his first cousin William (Billy) Cason

William and Adeline Cason had three children:

Josephine Americus Barr 1/24/1877, b. 1862,
dau. of William T. and Martha L. Barr.
2. Mary A. married Joseph M. Fryer
3. Lavina b. ca. 1860, married Elias C. O'Steen. 12/21/1880. b. 1858, son of Paul C. and Penelope
O'Steen.
