|ALTHOUGH MY BROTHER AND I DID NOT COME FROM A CLOSE HOME, WE DID COME FROM A HOME WHERE WE KNEW OUR MOTHER LOVED US VERY MUCH. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NOT MUCH AFFECTION SHOWED TOWARDS US PHYSICALLY MY MOTHER MADE UP FOR IT WITH GIFTS AND LOTS OF GIFTS. SHE TRIED VERY HARD TO MAKE EVERY HOLIDAY AND SPECIAL OCCASION A HUGE DEAL AND TO BRING THE LITTLE FAMILY WE HAD TOGETHER. ALTHOUGH NOT ALWAYS SUCESSFUL SHE NEVER GAVE UP. MY BROTHER AND I WERE VERY LUCKY IN LIFE FOR THE PARENTS GOD GAVE US. THERE IS NOWAY THAT WE COULD COMPLAIN ABOUT ARE GROWING UP.HOWEVER, WHEN MY MOTHER DIED WELL WHAT CAN I SAY OUR FAMILY DID FALL APART. THE HEART WAS GONE AND WE ALL WENT OUR OWN WAYS. MY FATHER EVEN WENT ON TO START A NEW LIFE WITH ANOTHER FAMILY, I MOVED 3000 MILES AWAY AND MY BROTHER AND SISTER IN LAW STAYED TO CONTINUE LIFE WITH THIER KIDS AND GRANDKIDS. REST WELL MOM|

I fixed the location of death for both Jesse & Mary Catherine. I also transferred them to you as they are your grandparents. If you follow, by clicking their parents & then their parents, & keep going as long as you can, you will have a good list of your ancestors. The Sara B. who put the memorials on Find A Grave, might even be another "cousin". I haven't written her to find out, but you might want to.

Well, gee, if I'd just looked at my Family Tree Maker on the Long side, I could have told you that & her maiden name. Mary Catherine Slifer, b. 4 Apr 1904 in Washington Co., MD - d. 7 Sep 1985 probably Washington Co., MD. Her parents were: Daniel Raleigh Slifer & Ellen "Ella" Powell.
Boy that was dumb of me to leave that info off. C

I just put a memorial page on Find A Grave for your grandmother. Her Find A Grave #110355100. Same cemetery as your mom.
I'll transfer her to you.

Yes, we are distantly related. My Family Tree Maker says your grandfather was/is my 4th cousin 2x removed. Your dad was/is my 5th cousin 1x removed and you are my 6th cousin. I don't quite understand how your dad & granddad would be 1 or 2x removed & yet you are a "straight" cousin, not removed. I've got a "cousin" chart & will try to figure out how far back our branches meet. Does that make any sense?
My branch starting back in time:
Martin Lang, 1633 -? & Margretha Weber
Johann Martin Lang, 1701/02-abt. 1768 (b. Germany-
d. Middletown, Frederick, MD - ?
Christopher Long, 1742 MD-1811 MD & Anna Ursula Flook, 1744-1810 both MD
John (Johannes) Long, 1788-1820 both MD & Catherine Alexander, 1782-1869)
Ephraim Long, 1814 MD-1886 NE & Mary Ann Ahalt, 1817 MD-1905 NE
Louis Christopher, 1854 MD-1914 NE & Mary Ellen Keedy, 1865 MD-1944 LA, LA, CA
Elmo Thomas, 1894 NE-1953 NE & Gladys Carol Wilson 1895 NE-1971 NE
then my parents (mom still living) & me
I believe that Martin (1701/1702) had more children because there are big gaps in the known kids births: Jacob, 1738, m. Margreth Walz Christopher, 1742,as above
John 1754, m. Anna Margaret Flook
Elizabeth, 1762, married Daniel House
Christopher (1742) & his bro Johannes (John) both had large families & also Ephraim (1814)
Louis Christopher, 1854 had 3 kids as did Elmo Thomas.

Stephen, I am very pleased to transfer your father to your care and management. And thanks for the kind words regarding my own dad.
|Carlene Steel||RE: patricia long|
Thanks for the kind words. The transfer has been done. You should receive a notice from Find A Grave that you are now "in charge" of her memorial page. I found your Find A Grave # on your page where I left a message. When I was a new member, I didn't realize that we, the living, get a # also. It's at the top of your message page next to your name. If you will go to your mom's page, you will see that you are now the person to contact if any additions are to be made on her page. I transferred her to your care.
I haven't had a chance today to work on finding your grandmother, but I will start a new search with the dates & locations that you provided.
|Carlene Steel||Patricia Ann Thomas Long|
Am I correct, that Patricia is your mother? If so, I would be happy to transfer her memorial to you. Send me your member # & I'll get it done.
My mother's maiden name was Long & they came originally from Washington & Frederick Co., MD. My direct line ancestor was Johann Martin Lang/Long, b. 1701/1702 in Kassel, Hessen, Germany & was in America by the early 1730's. His children were all b. in Maryland & all used the Americanized version of Lang = Long. In 1875, Ephraim Long & family had moved to NE.
Do you still live in MD?
|Carlene Steel||RE: patricia long-Dorothy Thomas|
I had Dorothy Keplinger as a wife of Samuel Alfred Thomas, however I didn't have any info on her. I've been trying every "trick" that I know of to find info on her & can't find a thing. Of course, it's rather difficult when I don't even have a starting date such as her b-day. There are many, many Dorothy Keplingers then & now in the U.S. I thought I had found her in a 1910 Census, dau. of John W. & Anna F. & b. abt 1904, but I can't find a marriage to Samuel in MD, but they could have married in another state. I did find a Dorothy that died in FL in 1998, I believe it was. But I have no way of pinning down the correct Dorothy. Of course, I don't know for sure is Keplinger was her maiden name. You will have to send more info for me to find her.
As to Dale Long, I knew he died in Ok City, OK, so just went to Find A Grave to search for him. Also, had found the Obit in the Edmond Sun paper.
