After a lifetime of living only for myself, I decided it was time for a change. A few years ago I took a personal pledge that if I saw a need, and it was within my means to fulfill that need, I would always do so. Surprisingly, this pledge has cost me very little money. It has cost me some time, some effort, and sometimes just a willingness to listen. Moreover, the benefits have outweighed the costs many times over. In a sense, it's like trying to outgive God.
