Addition Family Information
From the Middlesboro Daily News (Middlesboro Ky)

Dr. J. S. Bingham also known as "Judge" gave this information on this family.

"On his mother's side, Dr. Bingham could trace his ancestry back to the Yellow Creek Valley before 1800. His mother, America Lane, was the daughter of Samuel Lane and Sarah Asher, who made their home on Bennett's Fork near the present site of the Junction. They lived in a big two-story house with a three acre yard and with more than eighty cedars around the fence. The Lane home was the most imposing in the Yellow Creek Valley for more than a generation after 1800."

Samuel Lane came into the valley soon after Boone had blazed the way, and married Sarah Asher, a sister of Dillon Asher who lived on Red Bird. He (Samuel Lane) had a brother William Lane, who lived in Middle Tennessee and was prominent in political affairs, representing his district in Congress for several terms."

Of the Asher side of this history, Judge Bingham gave this:

"He was the son of Captain William Bingham, of the 49th Kentucky Volunteer Regiment. His father saw most of his service in his native Kentucky, being stationed at Camp Burnside, Lexington, and Somerset. Captain Bingham was born July 15, 1834, and lived to the venerable age of 92. He was the son of Joshua Bingham, who came to what is now Bell County from Albemarle County, VA, and saw service in the
War of 1812."
