"RECORDING OF A CEMETERY" |
by Thelma Reagan and edited
by Betty Kuebler
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we walked where others wept
For those whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babes;
Snatched from the arms of their mothers,
Who had to live on, and be brave.
Today we saw where grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Their beds are kissed by the sun and rain
As your's will be, and mine.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust."

|Jay Cress||Hermann Meyer|
You recently requested that Herman Meyer (1837-1888) name be changed to William Herman Meyer
Hermann Meyer is my great great grandfather, and a brick wall. I have never seen william on any of the courthouse records, census or family photos.
I would be very interested in how you know this. Also if you know of any living Meyer family members, I would be interested to get in contact with them as well.
Thanks Jay Cress
|JHart||RE: Myrtle Lena McKinzie buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, High Hill, MO|
Both of her parents are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery where she is buried according to their death certificates. I assume they are in unmarked graves since there is no findagrave memorial for them. Both of her parent's death certificates are available online https://s1.sos.mo.gov/records/archives/archivesdb/deathcertificates/default.aspx#searchDB which is a great resource for research on anyone who died in Missouri 1910-1965.
Myrtle's father was George Washington Miles 1851-1938 and her mother was Margarett (Jones) Miles 1864-1937.
Maybe Mt Pleasant Cemetery records can confirm that they are buried there and you can add findagrave memorials for them.

Thank you for making the necessary correction. I searched high and low for her parents obits to give them a final resting spot to no availability. But I did find her brother's obit and gave him a final resting place. Once things get back to normal in South Louisiana, I am going to contact the Lafayette library to see if just maybe they have microfilm since I have a death date for the father.

|Lawrence D. McCoy||RE: Photo requests|
Glad to do it.
|PLowe||RE: John Fleming and Nora Fleming Ortcotter|
Hi Roxanne! You are so welcome. I recently got those pictures from a distant relative who said they would be happy to have me place those on their memorial pages.
John Cary Fleming is my great-grandfather's brother. (Samuel Church Fleming). When or if I find their parents' graves, John and Samuel will be connected as siblings.
I would love it if you want to transfer John and Nora to me. I'm new to adding and contributing to memorials and would love to know how to transfer a memorial in case anyone ever asks me to transfer one of mine to them.
Thanks for your kind words,
