"RECORDING OF A CEMETERY" |
by Thelma Reagan and edited
by Betty Kuebler
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we walked where others wept
For those whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babes;
Snatched from the arms of their mothers,
Who had to live on, and be brave.
Today we saw where grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Their beds are kissed by the sun and rain
As your's will be, and mine.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust."

|Claire||RE: Photo request for Dr. James B. Green|
Hi Roxanne, We are always happy to help when we can. We especially like to contribute the graves in the Church Street Graveyard. It is one of three graveyards from Mobile's earliest days and was filled up rather quickly when there was an outbreak of yellow fever in the year that Dr. Green died. Afterwards they established the Magnolia cemetery which is a huge place with magnificent monuments but this little graveyard is so poignant that we love to record these markers. I do hope that Graveaddiction will add your transcription of the marker to his memorial page.

|JHart||RE: Myrtle Lena McKinzie buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, High Hill, MO|
Both of her parents are buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery where she is buried according to their death certificates. I assume they are in unmarked graves since there is no findagrave memorial for them. Both of her parent's death certificates are available online https://s1.sos.mo.gov/records/archives/archivesdb/deathcertificates/default.aspx#searchDB which is a great resource for research on anyone who died in Missouri 1910-1965.
Myrtle's father was George Washington Miles 1851-1938 and her mother was Margarett (Jones) Miles 1864-1937.
Maybe Mt Pleasant Cemetery records can confirm that they are buried there and you can add findagrave memorials for them.
