The Recording of a Cemetery

Today we walked
where others walked
On a lonely,
windswept hill;
Today we talked
where others cried

For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be treasured for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

My Thoughts: I simply love this site. Researching family has been my passion for many years, so I started adding some to FAG connecting them together forever just as they were in life.
I grew up in the farming community of Tobinsport, Indiana, near the cemetery where my Sweet Mother, Father and Family rests. This cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the community. The Lamb Cemetery was hit by a tornado on 27 Apr 2002 taking out all the old cedar trees and damaging several of the older stones. After much work and dedication, many of the stones that were damaged were repaired and several have been replaced. As this and the ages have taken many of the stones, fearing the worst I started recording the cemetery on FAG. Surprisingly there are very few stones gone, yet there are several that are now damaged beyond repair. I have also been researching and connecting the people together, and adding the history of our community.
The Memorials in the Lamb Cemetery will not be transfered at this time. This Cemetery is still a work in progress. We are still researching, finding more history, adding more burials as records are found.

7/14/2014- GREAT NEWS!! I just wanted everyone to know that I received an email today that the Indiana Historic Bureau has approved the Lamb Cemetery as a Historic Cemetery in the state of Indiana.
We are very excited as this is the first for Perry County. Thank You to the local DAR.

I have been researching my family for well over 25 years. I have too many surnames to list. Seems everyone in the Perry County area is connected somewhere along the way.

I have entered several cemeteries in Perry Co., IN that I have found the records for. Many of them are old abandoned family cemeteries. Hopefully this will help people find their long lost family members.
