I am Scots-English on my paternal side (always thought Scots-Irish but DNA shows no Irish) and Croatian on my maternal. I have followed my first American ancestor, Joseph Newcomb b1767 back to Rockingham, NC, but so far, unsuccessful tracking him back to pre-immigration to America. I am a bit more successful with my maternal grandfather who immigrated in 1912. My mother found a letter dated in 1952 from the family in the old country and using a translator in Zagreb, we were able to locate the family in Croatia. We have reconnected and I have visited them several times. I am currently retired.
