Bio

I am the oldest son of four children. I have 2 brothers and 1 sisters.

I am the father of 4 wonderful children.

I have very strong family roots in Vigo, Clay, Parke, Sullivan, and Greene Counties, Indiana. I live in Lost Creek Township of Vigo County, Indiana, and I reside in what is known as the Lost Creek Settlement, where many of my ancestors settled, starting around 1830. I still live on family property purchased more than 150 years ago.

Like most of the Lost Creek settlers, my ancestors were Native American mix. My European Bass ancestors, married into the Nansemond Tribe of Virginia in 1638. As the numbers of Europeans increased in Virginia, the Indians were pushed to North Carolina, where many settled in what is known as the Lumbee Tribal reservation. Most of the early settlers of the Lost Creek and Underwood settlements, here in Vigo County, came from there. Over the past 180 years, we have become a tri-racial community.

I am researching the surnames of Anderson, Bass, Batton, Cooper, Harris, Harrison, Hill, Norton, Phillips, Riley, Roberts, Russell, Shepard, Shepherd, and Stewart.

I manage a genealogy website for the Lost Creek settlers. It is:
