During the process of documenting the more than 10,000 graves at Lone Mountain Cemetery, it was discovered there are hundreds of graves with no headstone or marker. Funds are currently being raised through private donations to purchase headstones for these individuals. This project has been accepted as an approved project through the Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation (EIN 47-4750761) a 501(c)(3) organization. 100% of the funds raised will go to purchase headstones for those individuals buried at Lone Mountain Cemetery, Carson City, NV. Checks should be made payable to FCCPR and mailed to FCCPR, P. O. Box 3266, Carson City, NV 89702-3266.

Please know that my information is coming directly from the cemetery records, or obituaries, and is then verified to the County web site and many times Ancestry.com before being added. I then walk the section just added to take photos of the grave as further confirmation. As an added note, if the headstone is poorly made, most likely it will produce a poor picture. This is an ongoing process and links to family members and obits will be added as I am able. Please use the edit functions to make corrections or add information. I am more than willing to transfer memorials so please let me know if you would like to manage the memorial.

For now I am adding the obits to the memorial in the picture section. It may look tacky, however, in the interest of time it is a placeholder until at some time I can go back and add it to the memorial. In some cases it is the only proof that the individual was in fact buried at Lone Mountain. Hundreds of graves are undocumented at Lone Mountain. There is no record of these individuals at the cemetery office or the county. It is my hopes to properly identify as many people as possible through whatever means I can so we can properly acknowledge these individuals, especially to connect loved ones. If you would like these obits put in the memorial, please let me know and I will transfer management of the memorial to you and you can retype as you wish.

In 1884 appropriations were granted to transfer 44 graves over from Ft. Churchill Cemetery to the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery at Lone Mountain. The graves were reinterred with military honors, Monday February 16, 1885. In addition, many of the graves buried at the Poor Farm were also transferred to Lone Mountain. And the graves at another Cemetery located across from the Governor's Mansion in Carson City were also moved to Lone Mountain Cemetery. This created many memorials as being identified as unknown, or location unknown. It's possible there are other undiscovered cemeteries located in Carson City.
