I started researching my family history in 2011. One of my first discoveries was that both of my mother’s parents were descendants of Mayflower passengers (George Soule and John Alden). On my father’s side, I have uncovered a rich history of Italian ancestors who immigrated to Boston in the late 1890s (on his father’s side), as well as a large family of Irish ancestors who settled in Montreal for several generations before immigrating to New England (on his mother’s side). One surprise after another has kept me digging through records, visiting cemeteries, and planning trips to far away places.
