My interest in family history came in part from wanting to find out more about my connection to Daniel Boone, after being told by my grandmother Lewis that her grandmother Armstrong was his great-great-great-granddaughter. It turns out that Almeda Rexford was born in upstate New York to a family of New Englanders who never lived anywhere near the Boones. But it turns out there are Boones in my family after all—Debby ("You Light Up My Life") Boone, her sisters, my brother and I are all great-great-great-grandchildren of Elijah and Polly Jane Foley of Crab Orchard, Kentucky.

So I trust documentary sources more than I trust family stories. But: Lena (Devore) Dickerson is buried in Richmond Cemetery next to her husband M.M. ("Cap") Dickerson, but the name written on her death certificate is "Lena Devore Middleton". I have no idea why.
