I come from a large family, 6 siblings. Five boys and yes 1 girl, ME. As a young girl I have always been interested in my heritage. I started out early tracking ancestors as best I could by asking questions,PC's were not around then!!!! and my family didn't live near us for me to drag out information. Regardless of whos marker I find, I often wonder where their/my people came from, what they were like, what their life was about, what they died from, what their babies died from and how they coped with the death of a child, especially several year after year.

My parents Charles M. Bates and Devera Iona Dowdy Bates have searched for many years to uncover our history and found some truth and not so true to the "it is said". I believe that genology is a journey in life and it is for you or it is not. However,your family heritage being passed from one generation to another, is a honor to give and to receive. It is who you are good or bad!!!!!!
