Bio

I volunteer on Find a Grave to help others find their family members, see stones they cannot visit, preserve the historical information (just in case a cemetery is vandalized, uncared for, ravaged by time, etc.), and to try to make sure that no one is forgotten. I take photos in order to preserve the original stone, document its information, and the art of stone masonry.

I think that Find a Grave is a very useful site for both preservation of the memory of those passed and for genealogical purposes.

I am happy to transfer people I manage to you. I disagree with the rules that Find a Grave sets forth for managing the memorial page for a grave. According to Find a Grave’s transfer rules, you cannot get your 3x great grandfather, even if the person managing them doesn’t know them, unless the person is nice enough to give them to you, but why would they want to keep them in the first place? I get stopping interfamilial disputes about who should manage who by making rules, but I don’t 100% agree with Find a Grave’s characterization of what constitutes a transferrable person. I was very close with my great Uncle (who has no descendants and the person managing him doesn’t know him) yet I’m not allowed to have him and I cannot invoke the rules to make someone give him to me.

I also don’t believe that you should manage so many people that you cannot handle the edits or corrections promptly.

I will transfer anyone who is your direct relative (as long as they are not mine) no matter how far back they are unless two people request it then I will transfer it to the closest person or if they are not your “direct” relative, but you had a close relationship with them (and I’m not related to them) I will transfer them to you. I’m very flexible with transferring management.

I believe that Find a Grave is suffering from a competitive disorder, just like Facebook. On Facebook its how many friends can you get (even if you don’t know any of them) and on Find a Grave its how many graves can you “collect” (even if you don’t know any of them)?

I participate in Find a Grave purely to help others and to preserve. I am proud to be part of the community of volunteers who still hold these values to a high standard.

The pictures I take are for your use (i.e. on Ancestry, etc.). I take them for public consumption. There is no point in documenting information if people can’t use it.

I get my information by walking cemeteries, I do not use obituaries or cemetery lists, so corrections or additions to memorials are welcome. Please click the edit tab in the upper right hand corner of the memorial.

Please include all relevant information for example, relation to the person, in your emails or edits.
