Bio

I am interested in Read, Hatch, Howes, Kavanagh and Kidder family histories. Also, the Lesher family in Colorado.

The Reeds came from Derry Ireland to Topsham, Maine around 1720. Children of William Reed moved to the Orono area around 1808 (and changed their name to Read). William Read's great grandson, Dr. Ambrose M. Read, moved to Chicago around 1856.

My mother's maiden name was Hatch and she was raised in the Downers Grove/Lisle Illinois area. My mother's gr grandfather, Luther Hatch and his brother James C. became the first settlers (of Lisle) in 1832. In 1834 they were joined by brothers Jeduthan and Leonard. The Hatch brothers immigrated from Alstead NH via Lodi MI as early as 1829 before finally putting down roots on the prairie west of Ft. Dearborn. The Hatches of Alstead immigrated from Falmouth MA in the 1690's via Tolland CT from the 1720's-1770's. The first Hatches in our line arrived in Salem, Mass from England in 1634.
