Hi Raymond. Wondering if you are related to George W Pettit, born 1879, died 1969, husband of Cora. If not I was wondering if you would be willing to transfer ownership to me. This is the uncle of my son-in-law. I am doing his family research for him. thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated. Liz Fekete

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Have deleted this from my site. You have a wonderful memorial for him. I try to make sure I do not create duplicates when entering the sites. Sometimes one gets through.

Today Joseph's stone was returned to the Thompson cemetery, after being missing from the mid 60's, found about 20 years ago and sitting in a DNR maintenance shed for approx. the last 20 years.
I took a couple photo's of the event, if you would like, I could email them to you.
Let me know.

Here is an update. His headstone has been retrieved from the DNR by the commission and is due to be returned to the Thompson Cemetery on Sept. 20. So after being missing for 50 some years it will be back where it belongs.
I am planning on attending the event and will take some photo's.

Hello, I recd your request for an edit to link Leo Nutt's parents. I am not use to using that feature and thought I accepted both parents. I just looked at it looks like only dad got linked. Who was his mom? Or I can transfer to you if you are interested.

As Terry Shaw indicated there are only two graves with headstones and two bases in the cemetery.
I heard there was going to be a talk about Thompson Cemetery in Hale last night so I went.
Joseph was mentioned, so I asked some questions. This is what I learned.
Joseph was a civil war veteran and most likely got his section on land given to him. His land abutted Thompsons, there are believed to be 1 child or more buried here. There was a stone, but it was stolen in the 70's.
It was found by the Michigan DNR several years ago and resides in a DNR warehouse, it is in two pieces. The Iosco County Historical Commission is trying to make arrangements for it's return. Because Govt. wheels turn slowly they think it might take most of the summer. I also heard that it was rumored that he was buried in his uniform.
I will keep an eye on things, so keep your request active to act as a reminder to me, and I will be glad to photograph it upon it's return.

I have recently been to the cemetery and there are very few graves that can be found. once it dries out I will try again but the cemetery had been run down for so long there are two head stones that are missing the top part and so we do not know who's grave it really is.
