RE: Query Thanks for the clarification of the Avery Pickens timeline, it's pretty much what I had mapped out for him by looking over the census records and such. At one of the Pickens links on RootsWeb, a researcher with the e-mail of email@example.com noted that Avery was born in 1846 yet the 1850 census clearly states that he was born in Dec. 1848, and then lists the various census records of 1850 to 1930 that he was shown in. I plan on going to the Archives Library in Nashville at the earliest opportunity (the state of TN cut back on the hours of when it is open, ugh) so will look for more specific events to try to determine when he passed away. Heritage Quest is pretty limited on some of the census records being uploaded so it's frustrating at times using it. Odd how his wife in the 1880 census lists his wife Polly Ann (Benson) as "Mary Ann" ~ that would certainly make someone crazy if they didn't know her actual name used on their 1875 marriage record! That researcher noted above in this note also used the name "Mary Ann" in her posting so one can see how it can lead someone astray while looking for exact information.
Query Hi Marvolene, I believe that we may have connected before as we share the same ancestor link through the William & Emily Reynolds Pickens family line. Am interested in how the information on Avery Pickens was verified as to his date of death in 1929? He is mentioned on your bio. I see him last in the 1920 census at the age of 66, living next door to his brother, David and his family. Just needing to clean up some loose ends on this tree. Helen
