I started researching my family tree back in the late 1970's on a sporadic basis when I was in the Navy and correspondence was by "snail mail." I have been at it pretty steady since about 2006 and am amazed at the amount of information available online these days. The majority of my research is in my home area of Muskegon County, Michigan and southwestern lower Michigan. It is a beautiful place live and work and play. Particularly interested in the following surnames: Harkness, Allen, Golwitzer, Hanson, Nicholson, Wood, Cruikshank and Shepard. I have a passion for prior military service biographies. Would like to someday find and visit my ancestors in Cookstown, Ireland where my Harkness line came from. I also enjoy visiting cemeteries and taking headstone photos. It is interesting how family relatives were often buried in adjacent plots or "just across the aisle" in a cemetery. Any photo I have posted to Find A Grave may be freely used for non-commercial purposes.Be sure to check out the Muskegon County Genealogical Society website at: www.genealogymuskegon.com for lots of information on Muskegon County, Michigan.Have fun!
