Bio

I was born in Cumberland, MD to Thomas Carl Powell, Jr. & Helen Nellie Mae Riley on April 6, 1951. My father was in the United States Army & in Korea @ the time of my birth. My mother & older sister, Helen Louise, were living with my maternal grandparents, Orval Joseph Riley & Vena Elizabeth (Winters) Riley, when I was born. Because my father was in the military, we were stationed all over the United States & would frequently be posted in Pocatello, Idaho where in 1955 I contracted the Polio Virus during a major outbreak in Bannock County. I spent many weeks @ the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. There weren't any freeways in those days so, I rarely saw my parents who were living in Pocatello. After my release from the hospital, I had to ware a brace on my left arm & do physical therapy. My mother was always there to encourage me & called the exercises "tricks" to make it more of a game. I was very insecure & felt horrible when the other kids made fun of me but, over the years, they quit & I became more secure with myself. I was gifted with a wonderful singing voice & over the years helped me build my self confidence.
While we were stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, my Dad received word that his father, my grandfather, Thomas Carl Powell, Sr., had been diagnosed with ALS. My dad was to return to the Sates on what the Military calls "Compassionate Leave". We returned to Pocatello, ID. where my grandfather died in 1965.
I graduated in 1969 from Pocatello High. I attended ISU for two years where I met & married my husband, David Lee Edmunds, in 1971. We had 2 daughters, Heather Ann in 1976 & Holly Jean in 1977. David worked for the UPRR until his death September 2,1981 in a MVA, while returning home from working in Soda Springs on I30. He & the engineer Greg P. Leger, were killed instantly when their car was in a head on collision with a semi.
In 1984 I moved to N.California with my daughters & boyfriend. In 1991 I attended the College of Marin graduating with an ASN in 1995. I practiced as an RN until taking a medical retirement in 2003.
I moved to Eastern Oregon to be closer to my daughters, Heather Ann & Holly Jean & their families. After a semi-miserable 8 yrs. in Oregon, I happily returned to Chubbuck, Idaho on Jan. 1,2015 where I'm currently living & am enjoying making contact with old friends & making new ones.
