I have been an amateur genealogist since I was in high school. I always loved a good mystery and think of it as a game, collecting all the clues and putting the puzzle together.
As a kid, we used to go to the cemetery to care for our relatives graves. I was the youngest and deemed too little to help, so I would go around "visiting" all the graves, reading and intrigued by the statuary and inscriptions. I guess that is why I am so comfortable walking around a cemetery today, straightening flowers as I go along.
